EVOLVE 121

February 15, 2019 – Atlanta, Georgia

Adam Cole def. Shane Strickland
Strickland does a lot of little things well that I wish everyone would do. For example, when he needs Cole to be in position for one of his more intricate series of moves, he grabs Cole by the arm and takes him to where he needs him to be. He doesn’t just rely on Cole to get into position, which is great because that’s one of the things that takes me out of a match the most. Cole is a consummate pro, of course. So while the match didn’t quite hit that third gear I was hoping for, it kept my attention throughout regardless because both guys are able to keep you engaged even if they’re not trying to blow your mind. After the match, Austin Theory gives Cole and the Undisputed Era a bunch of backhanded compliments and asks to join. Cole says he can join when he hits puberty.  ***½

Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford def. AR Fox & DJZ {EVOLVE Tag Team Championship Match}
The story here is that Fox was allowed to get a partner to form a dream team to take on the tag champs, so he picked DJZ, seemingly because he won his last match with a dream partner when he teamed with Johnny Gargano. The commentators kept talking about how hot it was in Atlanta during this show, and I think that might have shown here as there were moments when the guys seemed out of sorts. They threw together a few gnarly spots, but overall this didn’t come together as anything memorable. **¾
