Kassius Ohno def. Darby Allin
Allin wears an Ohno photo as a mask to the ring. He also does a lot of really dope stuff in the ring, and Ohno was more often than not a good base for his showcase. There was a dull stretch during which a chatty Ohno slowed things down a bit much, but the rest of the match almost entirely overshadowed that bit. Allin sells like a champ, and the finish did a lot for him even though he lost. Anthony Henry attack’s Ohno after the match. ***¾
Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford nc. JD Drake & Anthony Henry {EVOLVE Tag Team Championship vs. WWN Championship Match}
The WWN title would only change hands if Drake was pinned, so it seemed natural that Henry just take the fall here. But then they opt for the other unsatisfying finish instead. The Profits looked awesome here, breaking out tandem offense I hadn’t seen them do before and frankly haven’t seen them do on more recent shows. I would have liked a little more of Ford vs. Drake here specifically, as the build was based around Ford having pinned Drake in their last tag match, but I guess the lack of it is balanced by the nice story of Henry protecting Drake at all costs. Then the whole thing ends when Eddie Kingston runs out and attacks everyone. I prefer the first match. Ford challenges Kingston after things settle down. ***
Austin Theory def. Fabian Aichner and Roderick Strong {EVOLVE Championship Triple Threat Match}
I like Strong a great deal, but I have no idea why he was in this match. He didn’t factor into the finish even though Theory’s lady friend did (though he fires her after the fact), and while his presence in the match was fun I’m not sure a singles match wouldn’t have been better. There were only a couple really interesting spots involving all three guys, and the rest of the match felt kind of unmoored (if very fast-paced). ***¼
