NXT UK 06

November 7, 2018 – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Toni Storm def. Dakota Kai
I am made very happy when one of the first things they show in this episode is a graphic congratulating Storm on winning the Mae Young Classic and a video of her performance in the tournament. The broken timeline stemming from these shows having been taped over the summer is really annoying, so I appreciate these little touches attempting to patch it up. Also, I’m in love with Storm. Also, I hope they record a few backstage promos in post as the road to a UK women’s champion continues. As for this match, the crowd chants “Evolution” during it, which can be taken as appreciation for Storm’s match there by those who watch this long after the fact. Kai still looks kind of unsure of herself in the ring, despite working very tightly. On the other hand they got the crowd psyched for stiff elbow-trading, Storm’s suplexes, and a fun home stretch. I’m a little worried that there’s not much in the way of competition for Storm in the UK. After the match, Jinny attacks Kai on the ramp. **½

Zack Gibson def. Amir Jordan
This is a rematch of a bad match from the Download Festival, in which Gibson had to rely on his Nigel Farage impression to get over. Here he takes a much more modest approach, pointing out that while the crowd may be jeering him, they’re not even paying attention to Jordan. This was more of a squash than their last match, but had a way better energy probably because it was at a wrestling show and not a music festival. After the match, Gibson cuts another promo drowned out in boos. I’m dying to know how they’re going to get around the fact that the title match he’s talking about getting already happened. This time around, Trent Seven interrupts him, which makes me ecstatic because these are the two best promo guys on this show. Seven encourages the fans to take off their shoes again to show how much they hate Gibson. Gibson walks out on a fight challenge ,so that match will happen next week maybe? Either way it’s good, because the next episode of NXT UK TV took place after Gibson’s title match against Pete Dunne in Brooklyn, so this part of the timeline will be back on track. N/A

Jordan Devlin def. Kenny Williams
Williams seems to be a guy in the same mold as Mark Andrews, and he’s had one match on 205 Live. His stuff actually had a bit more weight to it than Andrews’ usually does, so I’m happy he’s here. I’m also happy with the lucha-influenced sprint they put on here, as it was a nice change of place from the usually brawling and strong style fare that has dominated this show. It was much more of a showcase for Andrews, with Devlin really only controlling the finish. **¼

Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey & Wolfgang def. Flash Morgan Webster, Ashton Smith & Mark Andrews
Coffey’s entrance music, which brings his whole team to the ring, is so quiet when it starts that it ruins the whole affair. It’s not a bad song, so why not crank it up? This took quite a while to get going, and I still think Wolfgang is pretty much dead weight, but they strung together enough fun moments to keep my mind from wandering to much by the end. ***

I wish the even numbered episodes could be as good as the odd numbered ones. This was an easy episode to get through, but 1, 3, and 5 each had a blow away main event. Maybe the next set of tapings will be more balanced.
