NXT UK 02

October 24, 2018 – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Ligero def. Mike Hitchman
This is a rematch from a dark match at the Royal Albert Hall show. Hitchman’s plastic boar gimmicks are even more indy than Ligero’s whole deal. Get real bones or get out, dude. This was a couple ticks better than their last match, with Hitchman seeming like a threat for a bit before Ligero put him down to go 2-0 over him. **½

Dakota Kai def. Killer Kelly
I’ve only ever seen Kelly job. This was a little sloppy and disjointed, but Kelly got to look tough and Kai got to kick her around. It was alright. After the match, Kai said she heard rumors that an NXT UK Women’s Championship is on its way and that she wants it. **¼

Zack Gibson comes out for a promo. He’s the 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament winner, you know. It’s pretty weird that you’d be a championship tournament winner and not have a championship to show for it, but that’s WWE booking for you. This guy is very over as a heel and it’s amazing. This promo is the first major casualty of these early episodes being taped so long ago, as Gibson complains that he’s not been given a rematch for the title (which he wants because he had to fight three guys the night before his last title shot) despite having received said shot on an episode of NXT in August. He craps all over Noam Dar for getting a title shot despite being generally disappointing. Dar comes out but General Manager Johnny Saint interrupts and says they both need to meet him in his office. Later, they announce that a match between the two will be next week’s main event.

In the back, Travis Banks hasn’t forgotten getting beaten up for the Coffey brothers, and he’s coming for them.

Ashton Smith def. Tucker
I’ve been more impressed with Tucker (who went out in the first round of both UK tournaments) than Smith in the past. I wasn’t really impressed with either of them here, as the whole thing was kind of awkward when it wasn’t slow. *¾

Tyler Bate def. Wolfgang
Man, Wolfgang is just not that good. Some of this match was more cutesy and fun than their 2017 tournament match, but a lot of it was as nondescript as that match. The final stretch was mighty good, though. ***
