August 1, 2018 – Winter Park, Florida
Tucker Knight & Otis Dozovic def. Nick Miller & Shane Thorne
I was really enjoying watching Heavy Machinery do their thing until the Street Prophets made this an overbooked affair. More of these big fellas, please. **¾
Trent Seven & Tyler Bate def. Matt Knox & Brendan Taylor
Just a squash, but Mustache Mountain is fun in any context. They also cut a great promo after the match. Well, Seven did, but Bate is a little too British to understand. They’ll get a title shot in Brooklyn. **
EC3 def. Kona Reeves
This was going along fine before the Velveteen Dream distraction. It was a pleasant surprise that EC3 won the match anyway, but the whole thing was pretty hack. I don’t think I’ve ever seen two bullshit finishes in a row on this show before, and I hope it doesn’t happen again. *½
Shayna Baszler def. Candice LeRae
I have to admit that I’m surprised this match is happening here, as I was sure the Kairi Sane match was going to be used as fodder to build to this. I guess I had it backwards. This was real good. LeRae sells better than pretty much anyone on the roster and wrestled this match with one arm. The finish was dope too, and I hope we hear why LaRae went for the Lionsault after having a pinning predicament set with the Unprettier. ***¾
Tommaso Ciampa caps off the show with a celebration with his new championship. It’s so smart not to give him entrance music, as the crowd isn’t even tempted to pop for him. This guy cuts an amazing promo. If he’s not a WWE champion this time two years from now then something has gone terribly wrong. Amsterdam Black comes out but Johnny Gargano runs by him and attacks Ciampa. Gargano owns up to and takes credit for costing Black the title, so Black knocks him out. The crowd tells Gargano he deserved it.
