April 18, 2018 – Winter Park, Florida
Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae come out to start the show. Gargano thanks the fans and thanks his wife for helping him get through his tough times. LeRae is going to take on Zelina Vega in tonight’s main event. Gargano wraps things up by challenging Amsterdam Black for the title.
Ricochet def. Fabian Aichner
This was a nice, elevated squash. Aichner complimented Ricochet well, and they put on a good little show. **½
Hanson & Rowe def. Chris Metro & JC Metro
I don’t review squashes. N/A
Shayna Baszler interrupts Serena Deeb, who is now a coach at the Performance Center, and gives a talk to the locker room that she thinks she now runs. There’s an interesting crew of wrestlers in the locker room, including Reina Gonzalez, Rhea Ripley, Xia Li, Kavita Devi, Zeda, that Brazilian girl who was in the Undisputed Era for a second. WWE pays all these people to just train and not be on TV?
Kona Reeves is being repackaged as… I dunno, like a Ricegum type? I’m not even really sure what this is supposed to be and Reeves sucks anyway.
Pete Dunne is going to rip Roderick Strong’s head off when he returns in a few weeks. The video in which he said that was recorded earlier today. Why would Dunne have stayed in the States for two weeks after Takeover, not wrestled, and then left for a few weeks? Little things like this, that could be fixed by recording the video inside and saying that Dunne was sending it in from the UK, really bother me.
Lars Sullivan def. Killian Dain {No Disqualification Match}
I was pretty bored in the early going of this, but they started laying into each other in a serious way, and the build up to the Divide through the table was really well done. Solid finish, too, with Dain teasing a Van Terminator and Sullivan using that to finish him off. And that’s a wrap on Dain in NXT. It’s good too, can’t have him and Hanson disrupting the space-time continuum by being so close to each other. ***
Candice LeRae def. Zelina Vega
Mauro Ranallo calls this both women’s NXT debuts, but LeRae has been two battle royals on TV already. Why do they allow stupid things to be said on TV? Being that this is Vega’s first match on TV, the commentators get into how experienced Vega is in the ring, and it makes you realize how silly it was that it never came up before. Andrade Cien Almas and Gargano get involved almost immediately, though not physically, and the whole thing ends with stereo Gargano Escapes on the villains. This was a nice way to blow off the feud, as Gargano has still never defeated Almas so they can continue that issue on the main roster if need be. And that’s a wrap on Almas & Vega in NXT. After the match, Gargano calls out Black. Black comes out and accepts his challenge. They’ll fight next week. **
