March 21, 2018 – Winter Park, Florida
Tommaso Ciampa kicks off the show. There are even more Johnny Gargano signs now. Ciampa finally speaks. Well, he screams. He screams about Gargano being gone. He rips the Gargano signs out of the hands of a few fans, but one of them ends up being Gargano in a lucha mask. I popped pretty big for that. They fight but security immidiately drags Gargano off of Ciampa. Can’t have fans attacking the wrestlers.
Roderick Strong & Pete Dunne def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch {Quarterfinal Match}
Strong & Dunne are replacing Mustache Mountain because Tyler Bate has a knee injury. His recovery time is just short enough that he’ll be back in action just in time for the storyline to need him. *cough cough* This could have been bonkers, but they ended it just as they were starting to get into a silly good groove. Once again, with 5-10 more minutes please and thanks. ***¼
Ricochet is coming.
Ember Moon def. Aliyah
Moon managed to squeak out a 3 on the CES, which is pretty good. Moon has skills, which makes it even more annoying that her gimmick is so grating. This was pretty much a squash, and served just to have a reason to get Shayna Baszler out on commentary so they could have a stare-down at the end. N/A
Raul Mendoza comes out, presumably for a match, but is attacked by Andrade Cien Almas during his entrance. He cuts a promo in spanish, but then gets incoherent speaking in english to the point that he gets bleeped out for cursing. I think he said he wants to fight Amsterdam Black next week, but who the hell knows?
Lars Sullivan is coming back. Does that mean his matches against Killian Dain and Roderick Strong are going to happen or are we just supposed to have forgotten about all that?
Next week, William Regal will make an announcement that will change the landscape of NXT forever. You’ll be especially happy if you’re not a fan of matches that aren’t contested for a title.
Adam Cole def. Kassius Ohno
Cole told his boys to stay in the back because it’s becoming clear his character doesn’t seem legit and they need to toughen him up. There was no reason for this match to exist, except of course that Cole really was in need of a high-profile win. But having said that, they really went for it here and put on a hell of a main event. The finish was a little sluggish, but it got the Cole-is-a-tough-guy point across in a big way. Good stuff! ***½
