Cruiserweight Classic 11

January 30, 2018 – Philadelphia Pennsylvania

Daniel Bryan starts the show by talking about the Cruiserweight Classic, which he did commentary on. He introduces Drake Maverick as the first General Manager of 205 Live. Maverick announces a 16 man tournament to crown a new champion now that Enzo Amore doesn’t exist anymore. Yeah, I’m just going to call this the second season of the Cruiserweight Classic. It’s basically a reboot for the division and the tournament dominates the show right up until WrestleMania, where the finals will happen.

Cedric Alexander def. Gran Metalik {First Round Match}
While this was a nice palate cleanser from Amore’s garbage run, it felt like they were going at half speed until the final two minutes. I feel comfortable chalking that up to the very quiet crowd, which is a real bummer given that it’s Philly and you’d think they’d be hype for a couple internet darlings getting ten uninterrupted minutes on TV. Alexander won in 9:28 with the Lumbar Check. ***

TJP def. Tyler Bate {First Round Match}
Bate was still doing Jack Gallagher lite and not yet the Big Strong Boi. He is over with the crowd, which is a relief because I don’t think I could watch another match in front of silent fans today. TJP blocked the Tyler Driver and got a roll up with a handful of trunks at 14:31. While this never kicked into a super high gear, but it did have a nice, interesting pace throughout. It’s certainly the best cruiserweight match I’ve seen since Neville was champion. ***½
