December 27, 2017 – Winter Park, Florida
This is the first time that the final episode of the year is a regular episode, and not the airing of some previously unreleased match or matches. This time around they saved that for the first episode of 2018.
Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford def. Chris Starr & Riley Apex
I don’t review squashes. The commentary here was pretty annoying, with Mauro Ranallo trying in vain to sound cooler than Nigel McGuinness, and Nigel irritatingly making comparisons between the (very bad) Apex and JBL. N/A
Ember Moon def. Sonya Deville {NXT Women’s Championship Match}
I guess the no holds barred match was a de facto contender match. This gets a 9 on the CES, not because the camera lingered so long on Deville waiting for the Eclipse to hit, but because she was on the other side of the ring before Moon climbed the ropes and Deville had to walk across the ring to get into position. Dumb. The match was super boring and Deville was never a threat. Kairi Sane comes out after the match, seemingly to challenge for the title, but Shayna Baszler strolls up behind her and chokes her out. That was cool. *½
Johnny Gargano def. Amsterdam Black, Killian Dain, and Lars Sullivan {Fatal Four Way Number One Contender Match}
On the one hand, I’m starting to hate the use of the Undisputed Era as a storytelling device every time someone needs to be protected. I don’t think we needed them running out here to do damage on Black when you had Sullivan and Dain who were doing just that. That aside, this match was bananas great. The gaga over by the announce table was stellar, Black running through everyone was wild, and the big men provided a really nice extra flavor to an otherwise stellar Black vs. Gargano match. The interference didn’t lead immediately to the finish so that’s a bit of pain off of that sting, but it’s still annoying and it continues to be how that group is used to this day. ****
It’s bonus UK title match time! This time it’s back to PROGRESS at their Chapter 60 show.

Pete Dunne def. Jack Gallagher {WWE United Kingdom Championship Match}
This is a match in three acts. In the first, they spent a lot of time on the floor, in the crowd, and on the ramp. While that wasn’t boring it was kind of… dumb. Like, count these dumb dumbs out, ref! The second act actually was boring. Nothing of consequence happened and even now as I’m writing this only moments after I’ve finished watching, I can’t remember this portion at all. The third act was incredible. They traded insanely tough shots, used creative reversals, and told a great story in which Gallagher was physically outmatched by Dunne, so his strikes had to be precise and calculated and he had to counter everything he could. There was a spot in which Gallagher had Dunne in his headlock and Dunne pulled out his mouthguard (I felt sick because of the amount of drool that followed) to bite Gallagher’s hand to escape. Had act 1 and 2 been better, this might have been a serious stunner. As it is, it’s just a really, really good several minutes in an otherwise unremarkable match. ***¾
