Abbey Laith def. Rachel Evers {Second Round Match}
So now we know that Evers terrible first round match, which was the worst match in the round for the entire field, was probably not her fault, because other than her weird selling here she did great. These two went hard at each other and the finish was fantastic. Good match under five minutes. **¾
Piper Niven def. Serena Deeb {Second Round Match}
I popped so hard for the finish here. As Niven was climbing the ropes for the Big Splash, I was thinking about how bummed I was that she’d go out in the quarterfinals because she’s using up her mega-match move here. Then I was shocked that Deeb avoided it, and can’t tell you how stoked I was that Niven pulled out the win anyway. She’s incredible, and Deeb kicked ass here as well. What a fun match. ***½
Mercedes Martinez def. Princesa Sugehit {Second Round Match}
I’m pretty sure that Sugehit was the Mexican National Women’s Champion at the time, which is neat. Too bad she couldn’t wear the belt out for her matches. Martinez was off her nonsense here, wrestling like she actually gave a damn. Solid stuff all around from these two, minus a couple awkward moments. **½
Kairi Sane def. Bianca Belair {Second Round Match}
Belair was really channeling Vega here (not to be confused with Savio Vega) and I dig it. At one point, Lita called her the most inexperienced woman in the tournament. Lita called a match for a woman who was wrestling for the first time just the night before (in non WWE Network kayfabe terms). That said, she wrestled her first match just under a year before this, and this match was crazy good for an actual rookie. Sane had to fight from behind a lot because of Belair’s use of the hair and size advantage, and damn does that little pirate know how to do that well. ***½
