Killian Dain def. Danny Burch
It seems kind of arbitrary that this match doesn’t get the WWE United Kingdom logo emblazoned on the big screen during it, but Pete Dunne vs. Mark Andrews in a match that had nothing to do with the UK title did. Both of these guys are British, and Burch was in the title tournament. Pretty one-sided for Dain. Let’s see what he can do in a longer match on his own. *¾
Tucker Knight & Otis Dozovic def. Hector Kunsman & Ricardo Watts
The jobbers are tiny, so the size differential is meant to be distinct. I don’t review squashes, and i’m ready for more from Heavy Machinery. They’re ready for more too. After the match, Dozovic gets a few catch phrases over, and Knight calls out the tag champs. N/A
Hideo Itami def. Kona Reeves
Seemingly at Bobby Roode’s instruction, Reeves attacks Itami before the bell. Itami bides his time, then kicks the crap out of Reeves. *
Next up with part 2 of the roderick Strong doc. They show his life with his fiance Marina Shafir, one of the Four Horsewomen of MMA. I have a whole diatribe about how this rampant nostalgia in wrestling (which is also rampant everywhere in pop culture) isn’t good for the long-term prospects for the business, but that’s another story for another time. They show a lot of his indy stuff from IPW Hardcore. Anyone ever wonder what happened to Sedrick Strong? No? Okay. Rocky Romero makes a surprise half-second cameo at the Performance Center. I guess there was some interest in him a while back. A Ring of Honor t-shirt also pops up, leading into a whole discussion about his 13 years in ROH. This is so cool. The doc ends with his baby being born. You should watch this. Part one is here and part 2 is here.
William Regal is very taken with Strong’s story, and he knows that Roode wants Itami to earn his title shot, so Strong and Itami will fight next week for the spot. Strong comes into the office and has a stare at Roode.
Nikki Cross, Ember Moon & Ruby Riott nc. Aliyah, Bianca Blair, Billie Kay, Candice LeRae, Kimberly Frankele, Lacey Evans, Liv Morgan, Royce Da 5’7, Rachael Evers, Sarah Bridges, Sonya Deville, and Victoria Gonzalez {Number One Contender Battle Royal}
A lot of the ladies get an entrance, so the entrances end up getting broken up by a commercial break. That’s silly. There are a few prominent debuts in this crowd (Belair, LeRae, Gonzalez). Everyone who isn’t on TV regularly goes out pretty early, mostly at the hands of the Iconic Duo. That leaves them, Aliyah, Morgan, Moon, Cross, and Riott. Our lord and savior Cross eliminates Aliyah and the crowd loves her for it. She eliminates Morgan as well. Moon gets rid of Kay and Royce. Moon and Cross score a 4 on the Contrived Eclipse scale. And then Asuka runs out and attacks Moon, Riott, and Cross, causing a no contest. That finish makes absolutely no sense, since there are no disqualifications in a battle royal. What a load of poo. Regal comes out and punishes Asuka by making a Fatal Four Way match for the title at Takeover between the ladies still at ringside. *½
