NXT 367

December 7, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida

DIY comes out to celebrate their tag title win, but before they can say anything, the Authors of Pain come to the ramp. But before Paul Ellering can really say much, the Revival comes out as well. Scott Dawson talks a little shit, but he and Dash Wilder get shoved by the AOP. Ellering gets the last word, and DIY never says anything or gets involved physically. The whole thing was kind of awkward. Later we find that the Revival will get their rematch first, and the winners of the Revival vs. DIY match will face the AOP at Takeover: San Antonio.

Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe def. Rich Swann & No Way Jose
Swann is now the WWE Cruiserweight Champion. Don’t think that’s going to help him here. Before the match, Young stomps and spits on Sawyer Fulton’s SAnitY jacket, so I guess that dude got fired. This match was good, if kind of pedestrian, and then at the end of it the giant Big Damo comes from out of nowhere and attacks the good guys. The rest of SAnitY doesn’t seem to know him. Meh. **½

Ember Moon def. Kimber Lee
This was a pretty competitive little match, and the on the Contrived Eclipse Scale this one was only a 5. **

Shinsuke Nakamura def. Samoa Joe {NXT Championship Match}
This happened on December 3rd in Osaka, Japan. This match is clipped on this episode, but shown more in full a few episodes later when the entire Osaka show airs. I’d mentioned that I had hopes that a Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe rubber match would outdo their previous matches. Well it really didn’t. A weird crowd (who even are Japanese NXT/WWE fans?) and a general house-show vibe meant it was quite a bit weaker than their previous matches. I wonder if they can do any better when Joe gets his final rematch in Australia. ***
