Akam & Rezar def. Mike Cuellari & Casey Maron
Akam & Rezar debuted at Takeover, attacking American Alpha after they lost the tag titles. I’m only mentioning it here because I forgot to do so in my Takeover review. I don’t review squashes, and I have a feeling I’ll be saying that about a lot of the Authors of Pain’s matches. N/A
Carmella def. Tessa Blanchard
Blanchard actually got to show a little personality and heel it up a bit. Carmella is getting better too, and for once was able to put on her finisher without struggling to grab her own foot. **
Shane Thorne & Nick Miller def. Wesley Blake & Buddy Murphy
Lots of Australians in the ring right now. This was a fun little sprint, and it was good to see Blake & Murphy do something other than totally job out. I mean, they still lost, but they lost after an interesting match at least. ***
Bobby Roode made an appearance in NXT when NXT was at the Download Festival in England. Hey, remember when James Storm had 2 matches in NXT? Would be interesting if he were still around for this.
Andrade Cien Almas def. Tye Dillinger
Did the worst match on Takeover need an immediate rematch? This was a little bit better than that one, a little more intense with an exclamation mark of a finish. ***
Finn Balor comes out to give a sort of farewell address, as we’re only about two months away from his WWE Universal Championship win. The crowd is already hip to the fact that he’s on his way out. I just realized that Balor’s NXT run was sort of a hijacking of Hideo Itami’s intended run, presumably, and that Itami even now still hasn’t returned from injury. Shinsuke Nakamura comes out to respond to Balor’s question about what to do now that he’s not the champion. He says that if he wants to be the champion, he has to beat NXT’s icon. So that’s gonna happen.
