March 30, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida
Jason Jordan & Chad Gable def. Corey Hollis & John Skyler
I don’t review squashes, even longer ones like this, especially when the commentators say that the winners didn’t break a sweat. N/A
They hype the Takeover main event with a special backstage promo from Finn Balor. He’s really not very good at talking. Lot’s of weird heavy breathing and stilted phrases. He does a lot better when they let him just speak normally about himself. Guy can’t handle a script.
Baron Corbin def. Mike Cuellari
I forgot that these Takeover go-home shows are sometimes just squashes. Yikes. This really did nothing to make me want to see him fight Austin Aries, so why even put it on? N/A
They show hype videos for Shinsuke Nakamura and No Way Jose. Most interesting part is a quick clip of Nakamura wrestling Killian Dain. Might have to track that down.
Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson def. Steve Cutler & Tucker Knight
This match is so inconsequential that they interrupt it to show a Revival hype video. Shouldn’t the match be what hypes them? This was whatever, but Knight got a nice little (emphasis on little) run to light up the crowd. N/A
Apollo Crews def. Alex Riley
This was fine, just fine. I have no idea what they want out of Riley, but at least they didn’t have him steamroll over Crews like Corbin, another person they’re wasting time on, did. After the match, Elias Samson comes out and sings a song before walking away. So the only feud so far on this show that gets hype in the actual arena is one that’s going to get bumped down to the pre-show in Dallas. **
They show a video hyping the Women’s Championship match. Emma and Dana Brooke talk about how dangerous Asuka is (that’s quite the turn for them), and Carmella talks about what a strong competitor Bayley is.
Samoa Joe def. Bull Dempsey
I think I would have not had this be a squash and used this opportunity to see if Dempsey could bring the goods against Joe. It’s not like Joe has ever looked weak since turning heel, so how would being competitive with Dempsey have hurt him? Anyway, this was a squash and then Joe takes forever to release the Coquina Clutch after the match. Kona Reeves and Alexander Wolfe, who I think are a team on live shows, run out to stop Joe but he fights them off and puts the Clutch back on. William Regal screams for Joe to stop, but doesn’t actually do anything about it. Finally, Finn Balor makes the save. They brawl all over the building until the show goes off the air. I don’t really buy angry-Finn. N/A
