NXT 326

March 23, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida

Johnny Gargano def. Elias Samson
Alright, let’s see what Samson can do in a real match. I was legitimately surprised that Gargano won the match and even popped a little. This was really short, but definitely decent. Samson attacks Gargano after the match. For some reason Apollo Crews, not Tommaso Ciampa, makes the save. **

Finn Balor def. Rich Swann
This was fun. Swann basically got squashed because Balor needs to be strong going into his match with Joe and he needed to get over his brainbuster finisher. But it was a really entertaining one and I like both guys so I’m breaking my rule. **¾

Alexa Bliss def. Sarah Dobson
Corey Graves makes a bullying joke on commentary during this match, which flies pretty hard in the face of their Be a Star campaign. He also says the word plebeians in a weird way. The match was a sloppy, boring squash, if you’re curious. N/A

Bull Dempsey nc. Danny Burch
Bull Dempsey comes out for the match, but is attacked during his entrance by Samoa Joe. Joe chokes him out on the ramp. Then Joe goes into the ring and chokes out Burch. Then he cuts a promo directly into the camera. Angry Joe is way better at promos than not-angry Joe.

Next up is an in-depth look at American Alpha, specifically focusing on their amateur wrestling backgrounds. Jason Jordan wrestled in college, then he failed. Chad Gable made it to the olympics, where he failed. Now they’re dead set on succeeding in winning a championship. It’s a great video package.

No Way Jose is coming, and luckily for him, he wasn’t a jobber on the show forever who now gets a restart using the same name. I’m looking at YOU, Elias Samson.

Asuka def. Emma
Apparently, Dana Brooke has been injured since her match with Asuka (which was like 6 months ago, so I think this might be a kayfabe injury to cover up for how crap she was in the ring). I’ll tell you what I like about Emma; she bookended her NXT career with good matches in two very different styles. Against Paige (the first time) she put on a heckuva mat-based match. Against Asuka (the second time, though the first was nothing to sneeze at) she took Asuka’s strikes and fired back as well as anyone could expect from her. You just have to wonder what her last run would have been like had Brooke not been involved. Thankfully, this was it for Brooke in NXT, and a little more bittersweet, the same was true of Emma. ***½
