March 16, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida
Sami Zayn starts the show by saying that he’s not embarrassed that he lost to Samoa Joe, but he is disappointed that he doesn’t have a match for Takeover. William Regal comes out to let him know that he’ll be fighting Shinsuke Nakamura at Takeover. Nakamura cuts a video promo that is totally incomprehensible, less because of his accent and more because the volume is too low.
Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley def. Angelo Dawkins & Kenneth Crawford
We never got that jobber blow off match between Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton. Crawford will become Montez Ford, so the world is starting to align. I don’t review squashes. N/A
Emma def. Deanna Purrazzo
Emma and Dana Brooke had been razzing Purrazzo for losing twice to Asuka in an angle that both didn’t make sense and wasn’t particularly desired by anyone. I don’t review squashes, but I will say that when the commentators also seem tired of your storyline, it’s time to move on or get out. N/A
They show clips from the Revival’s title defense over Enzo & Cass at Roadblock. I really enjoyed that match.
Tommaso Ciampa def. Jesse Sorensen
Yeesh, all squashes this week. “You don’t get paid by the hour,” is becoming code for, “Brad isn’t going to be interested.” N/A
Bayley & Asuka def. Nappa Jax & Eva Marie
This was fine I guess, with a heel miscommunication finish giving the fans some satisfaction at watching Marie take some abuse. After the match, Regal comes out and grants Asuka a title shot at Takeover. **
Jason Jordan & Chad Gable def. Aiden English & Simon Gotch {Number One Contenders Match}
This was pretty firey down the stretch, and the inevitable (and enjoyable) march toward American Alpha getting the titles moves on. Things are getting a little predictable (and rote) in these shorter AA matches, but I’m hoping that putting them in more big match situations will bring out the best in them. **½
