Asuka def. Billie Kay
These two had a match against each other in SHIMMER two years earlier, but I’d long since stopped watching by then. Kay was given a lot more to do here than I expected, and as a result this was actually pretty good. Asuka looks insane, and that is neat. **½
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady def. Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder
I was wondering why Enzo & Cass’s entrance bugs me so much while I remembered the New Age Outlaws so fondly. So I went back and watched a RAW from 2000 and I remembered that the Outlaws were annoying as hell too, and I was just a teenager and didn’t know anything. They win when Enzo catches Dawson with a surprise small package. Dash & Dawson beat up Enzo & Cass after the match, which is both lazy writing and backwards booking if you’re trying to build the heels up for a title shot. ¾*
James Storm def. Danny Burch
The commentators take a shot at TNA by saying that Storm has spent the post-WCW years of his career on the independent circuit. The crowd is really excited for him to be in NXT. Unfortunately for them, Storm was less enthusiastic about it and didn’t want to take on the WWE travel schedule. Oddly enough, a few months ago he was telling folks that now he wants to be in NXT. I guess we’ll see what happens. In this match, he squashes Burch. N/A
Alexa Bliss def. Peyton Royce
This was much more of a squash than the opener was. The Bayley challenger pecking order seems to be Bliss, then Asuka, then Nia Jax. N/A
Baron Corbin def. Rhyno
This match is the most unfortunate fallout from last week’s battle royal. This was the last match in Rhyno’s NXT run, and honestly I’m not sad about it. The commentators spent a lot of the match making excuses for the slow, long, boring brawl. **
