NXT 302

October 14, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida

Bayley starts the show, celebrating her title win and paying respect to Dusty Rhodes. Alexa Bliss, Blake & Murphy interrupt. She plays nice so she can get in close to Bayley, and then she steals the title belt. She taunts her with it before throwing it back at her and then hiding behind her fellas.

William Regal congratulates Samoa Joe and Finn Balor on winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Joe cuts to the chase and asks Balor for a title match on the basis that he’s undefeated. Balor is ready to give him a shot, but Regal has a battle royal set up to determine the number one contender. Joe looks disappointed but accepts it.

Aiden English & Simon Gotch def. Angelo Dawkins & Sawyer Fulton
Dawkins & Fulton finally get an entrance… and it seems like they’ve ditched the amateur wrestlers gimmick now that Jordan & Gable is a thing. They didn’t really show anything new in the actual match, which was your typical solid Vaudevillains runthrough. Meanwhile, Dash & Dawson want a shot at the tag titles on the back of their win over the champs during the Dusty Classic, but first they’ll have to beat Enzo & Cass. **¼

Nia Jax def. Evie
Evie will become Dakota Kai, and I guess she’s been around for a minute. I don’t review squashes, but Jax seems charismatic enough to pull off the monster heel gimmick. N/A

Apollo Crews def. Steve Cutler, Bull Dempsey, Baron Corbin, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Tyler Breeze, Rhyno, Buddy Murphy, Wesley Blake, Mojo Rawley, Zack Ryder, Danny Burch, Riddick Moss, Dash Wilder, Scott Dawson, Enzo Amore, Colin Cassady, Elias Samson, Tye Dillinger, and Samoa Joe {Number One Contender Battle Royal}
This is late for the annual NXT contender battle royal, but to make up for it, they do a bunch of Royal Rumble style promos for it throughout the show. Nothing particularly interesting happened in this long battle royal before they got down to the final four: Breeze, Joe, Corbin, and Crews. Corbin eliminated Joe with the help of Breeze, who Joe had already eliminated. Then Crews and Corbin finished things up with an exchange that was a hell of a lot better than the match they’d go on to have at the next Takeover event. But that’s another story for another day. This didn’t need to be nearly as long as it was, but it set up a lot of interesting storylines. ***
