Tyler Breeze nc. Adam Rose
Rose is now a party pooper, which feels very out of left field and like something that happened on WWE TV without my approval. And then Bull Dempsey interrupts the whole thing anyway to get revenge for last week. He wants Rose to leave. Rose also wants revenge on Breeze for when Breeze turned on him after a tag match. Shouldn’t Dempsey and Rose be partnering up? Dempsey chases off both guys. No match, but Breeze and Dempsey will fight next week.
Tye Dillinger def. Danny Burch
So much for Martin Stone. I don’t review squashes, but I have a couple thoughts. 1) The Perfect 10 gimmick is over with the crowd and 2) that shouldn’t be surprising because it’s basically just Big E Langston’s 5 gimmick. N/A
Asuka is coming next week. Nia who? Also, thank god because the last couple weeks of women’s matches have not been promising.
Apollo Crews def. Solomon Crowe
Pretty good back-and-forth match here. The commentators seemed to be hinting at a heel turn for Crowe. **¾
Some random goof in a TV studio wearing the ugliest tie I’ve ever seen tells us about all the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic matches that they didn’t air, and that the next Takeover is in three weeks. That seems like very little time to build to a big show, so three of the matches will be the semifinals and finals of the tournament. Did Takeover just sneak up on them or what? Anyway, in the first round Alexander Wolfe & Noah Kekoa (the future Kona Reeves) lost to the Hype Bros, and the Vaudevillains beat Blake & Murphy.
Rhyno & Baron Corbin def. Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano {Quarterfinal Match}
Well, that’s the best match Corbin has had his name attached to yet. Gargano & Ciampa got a few great near-falls in, and the heat segment on them never got too boring. Well done, gents. ***½
Bayley def. Sarah Dobson
I hear that Dobson is a riot. Before the match, Bayley brings her fan Izzy into the ring. I wonder if WWE feels at all responsible for that fact that three years after this, Izzy is 12 years old and taking dangerous bumps at the hands of indy wrestlers. Dobson’s selling was super weird, but her offense was more convincing than any of the new female upstarts that have been coming out lately. After the match, Sasha Banks comes out congratulate Bayley on her championship win. But she wants her rematch. Bayley will give her a rematch whenever she wants. Banks doesn’t just win, she wants to prove she’s the best female wrestler in the company. She wants to defeat Bayley repeatedly, so it’s going to be an ironman match. William Regal comes out to make it official (and 30 minutes), and to make it the main event at Takeover. Good stuff. *½
