NXT 296

September 9, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida

Carmella def. Peyton Royce
Lots of name changes for Royce. Hope this one sticks. Almost the whole match was one chinlock or another. Woof. ¾*

At an NXT house show that looks like it drew less than 100 people, Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady beat Angelo Dawkins & Sawyer Fulton in a first round match in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. At a different house show, Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson beat Elias Samson & Tucker Knight in a first around match.

Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano def. Tyler Breeze & Bull Dempsey {First Round Match}
This seems historically significant. Turns out Bull-Fit is kind of over, which is shocking to me. The finish was cheesy slop, but the rest of the match was good fun. The indy boys looked good and Dempsey was surprisingly popular. Breeze really didn’t have anything to do here, so he turns on Dempsey after the match. **¾

Dana Brooke def. Billie Kay
Oy, these women’s matches tonight really let you know that the division is in the middle of a rebuilding phase after the departure of two of its top (and best) wrestlers. This match sucked, but the finish wasn’t the worst I’ve ever seen. *

Finn Balor & Samoa Joe def. Kalisto & Sin Cara {First Round Match}
This match was taped two weeks earlier at a SmackDown taping in Providence, Rhode Island. Jimmy Uso is with Tom Phillips on commentary, so that’s something. I guess they were the commentary team on Main Event while Jey was injured. The big crowd is pretty excited about the match before it even really starts. It was simple, intense, and compact, and made the main event team look like monsters. I’d like a longer version please and thank you. ***¼
