NXT 290

August 5, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida

Bayley def. Charlotte
I thought this match would be treated get a main event slot. It was pretty dope though, as they spent just under ten minutes having a something-other-than-their-balls to the wall match up that moved so fast and had the crowd freaking out. Bayley breaking out an avalanche Bayley to Belly after the standard one didn’t work was also great. I can’t think of a better opener in NXT. Later on, Bayley asks William Regal for a title shot. Next week, she’ll fight Becky Lynch for a shot at the champ at Takeover. ***¾

Kevin Owens is interviewed backstage by Michael Cole. Cole brings up Regal saying last week after Owen’s apology that he wants Owens to lose. Owens is now worried that Regal will put a crooked referee in the match to screw him out of the win. So he insists on the match being a ladder match so that no referee will be involved.

Looks like they’re quitting on making the Bull-Fit gimmick funny and are now going for a more heartfelt approach. Yeah, good luck with that. Sidenote: the only Performance Center trainee I recognize in this segment is Liv Morgan, so I guess a lot of folks come through here and never make it.

Baron Corbin def. Steve Cutler
Pointless. Byron Saxton says the quiet part out loud on commentary, “There’s nothing much to it, folks.” N/A

Tyler Breeze def. Aaron Solow
I think Solow has jobbed in NXT with a different ring name. After the squash, Regal comes out and announces that Breeze’s opponent in Brooklyn will be Jushin Liger. Breeze is very pleased. N/A

Uhaa Nation finally gets a WWE name. He’ll be known as Apollo Crews and he’ll debut at Takeover.

Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley def. Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson
Well, that was a tough pill to swallow. It wasn’t a bad match but man oh man did the wrong team go over. After the match, Dash & Dawson beat up on the victors. Well, at least there’s that. **

Regal grants the Vaudevillians a tag title rematch at Takeover, but suggests that they find some way of curtailing Alexa Bliss’s interference.

Samoa Joe def. Rhyno
Joe’s good entrance music is finally here. What rhymes with gore? Bore, which is what Rhyno is. Get this guy away from the main eventers please. They tried but Rhyno is such a snooze. **½
