NXT 236

August 21, 2014 – Winter Park, Florida

Simon Gotch & Aiden English def. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady [Semifinal Match]
Enzo and Cass got kind of handled here, though after all the losses there’s probably some story to mine in them coming back for a win against the Vaudevillains later. After the match, the Legionnaires come out and shave off part of Enzo’s beard. Later, Enzo challenges LeFort to a hair vs. hair match at Takeover. *½

Speaking of Takeover, Triple H comes out to announce that another Takeover show is coming in a few weeks. I still don’t understand why JBL doesn’t make these announcements. Is this how the McMahon/GM relationship works on Raw and Smackdown now? I don’t watch those shows and I’m genuinely curious. And I have to eat my words because this is also an announcement that JBL is being replaced as GM, but doesn’t say who the replacement is yet.

Tyson Kidd def. Tyler Breeze
Nothing makes me happier than the way Breeze says, “Devin!” in backstage interviews. Even though he’s our de facto hero, he walks out on the match after a couple minutes. Later, he says he doesn’t want to think about that match and is more concerned about Triple H’s Takeover announcements. ½*

Charlotte def. Becky Lynch
Again? Alright if you say so. Lynch has gone from cartoon Irish to punk Irish, which seems much more appropriate. I asked for a longer version of their last match, and while this was the same length and not as good, I’m not mad at it. It does sort of show how shallow the division is right now that Charlotte can only go over the last person she went over. **½

Mojo Rawley def. Steve Cutler
The creative around Rawley is bankrupt. After the match, Rawley says that the smile is off his face. Renee Young on commentary gets me excited by saying, “You know what happens when people lose their smile around here.” Sadly, I have a feeling Rawley isn’t going to take any time off. ½*

Sin Cara & Kalisto def. Sami Zayn & Adam Rose [Semifinal Match]
Nia Jax is one of the Rosebuds now. I could have used another five minutes of the smooth, high flying action in this match. The luchadors certainly have more cred now that they’ve beaten NXT’s darling. That’s two weeks in a row of dope main events. ***¾
