NXT 233

July 31, 2014 – Winter Park, Florida

Tyler Breeze def. Angelo Dawkins
I don’t review squashes, but the message we’re supposed to be getting is that Breeze can hit the Beauty Shot out of nowhere and Adrian Neville needs to be worried. Neville comes out after the match and jaw jacks with Breeze before attacking him. These two have great chemistry. N/A

Charlotte def. Becky Lynch
Does anyone else think gauntlets look dumb? On Lynch and Breeze they both make their outfits look like Halloween costumes. Gauntlets aside, this was good and I want a longer version. ***

Konnor & Viktor def. Mac Miles & Steve Cutler
Uch, who was enjoying this run?! Just the same boring shit week in and week out. Make it stop. After the match they point out that they’re the longest tag champs in the brand’s history, but they’ve only made 2 televised defenses since winning the title almost a year ago. Why book them this way? N/A

Mojo Rawley & Bull Dempsey def. Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson
It begins! God bless the proto-Revival. There’s a tag tournament to decide the number one contenders to the Ascension, and this is kinda sorta like a qualifying match. They looked great here, controlling the short match, somehow keeping Rawley from looking lost, and then losing to Dempsey out of nowhere. The commentators also spend more time fawning over the Mechanics than they do the winners. **

Bayley wants to fight Charlotte for the title because she pinned her once. Charlotte doesn’t thinks he deserves it. Then they quietly awkwardly look at each other for too long before the segment ends. These things are worse at wrapping themselves up than SNL skits.

Adam Rose def. Tyson Kidd
This was slapped together because Natalya thinks Rose and the Rosebuds are neat and Kidd is jealous. This was actually a lot better than I expected it to be before the crappy finish. Maybe that’s not fair. The Natalya shared a lollipop with Kidd, which pissed him off to the point of having a tantrum and got him rolled up. And then after the match he blamed Natalya for the loss. That’s character development. But we already knew that he thinks Natalya is a problem and the finish felt cheap and tacked on. This would probably bother me less if it wasn’t two weeks in a row of bad finishes in the main event. **¾
