March 27, 2014 – Winter Park, Florida
Now that Arrival is in the books and quarterly live shows are on the schedule, NXT is hopefully going to be building to shows like this in the interim. Last week this was given a theme of sorts, and all the matches are someone seeking “Vengeance” against someone else.
Mojo Rawley def. CJ Parker
A few matches on this card are rematches from Arrival. Jason Albert, a babyface commentator, is still pushing climate change denial in response to Parker. On the bright side, Alex Riley has figured out how to talk about an environmentalist heel while not going all the way to flat-earther. As for the match, I’m not sure why we needed the exact same match they had at Arrival done over again. *
They show a clip of Corey Graves shoving Sami Zayn into the post and possibly concussing him. Of course, later in the evening Aiden English did the exact same thing to Sheamus and Sheamus was fine so Zayn just looks like a wuss for not being able to compete.
Tyler Breeze def. Xavier Woods
This is a redo after Rusev ruined their match at Arrival. I just noticed that Mojo’s Gronkowski-led fan section is still in full view of the hard camera. They really should have given them seats on the other side of the arena to keep the illusion of weekly shows going. This match was fine, just fine. I think they’re capable of better. **¼
Corey Graves def. Yoshi Tatsu
Logic dictates that Zayn will cost Zombie Graves this match. Instead, Graves just beats Tatsu again. After the match Graves tells Zayn to stay down, which basically makes no sense in the context of this feud because his attack last week should have been his way to goad Zayn into a rematch so he can even the score. Apparently it’s not, and this kind of writing is why nobody ever got behind Graves. I don’t like zombie movies and I don’t review squashes. N/A
Natalya def. Charlotte
Bret Hart is in Natalya’s corner. This got pretty sloppy, and the DQ ending thanks to Sasha Banks’s interference was terrible. I understand they’re doing a lot to protect Charlotte, and to their credit this match got a redo a few months later and it was incredible. But here, the only worthwhile moment was Hart’s casual motion to Natalya to put on the Sharpshooter. *¾
Adrian Neville def. Bo Dallas [NXT Championship Match]
I believe this is the fourth title match between the two. The commentators try to sell this as a match between the only two men who have held the singles and tag titles in NXT, but Dallas never won a match as tag champ and isn’t considered an official NXT Tag Team Champion. They brought this one home in excellent, big-match fashion. There were a couple great near-falls, and Neville debuted out a Bo-Killer dive to end the thing. That’s actually perfect, as four matches into their feud Neville had never pinned Dallas, so it was great that he avoided Dallas’ DDT and hit the reverse 450 for the win. Most of the match was dull, but that final stretch was great. ***¼
