NXT 198

December 4, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

In the back, Antonio Cesaro has a message for William Regal to stay out of his business. Leo Kruger approaches Cesaro and thanks him for beating him so badly that he reassessed his approach to wrestling. He wants to be a Real American. Cesaro will talk to Zeb Coulter if Kruger takes out Sami Zayn. Later on, Kruger attacked Zayn in his dressing room. I love that the Real Americans aren’t actually Americans, and there’s something especially creepy about them being from countries where ethno-nationalism is problematic.

Paige def. Natalya [NXT Women’s Championship Match]
Aside from a bland punchy-kicky segment in the middle, this was a pretty killer match. Definitely the best women’s match since the title tournament finals. Natalya did a great job keeping Paige’s bad habits in check, and they smacked each other around real good. ***½

In the back, Tyler Breeze thanks Alexander Rusev for attacking Kassius Ohno, and then straight up calls Ohno fat. That’s WILD to hear on TV. Lana tells Breeze to get lost, then tells Rusev to crush Ohno and then go for the NXT title.

Aiden English def. Mike LaBoska
This is a different This Guy than the This Guy that got handled in the Bo Dallas Invitational. I scoured the internet to find this dude’s name, and it just wasn’t happening and obviously it wasn’t said on TV. Anyway, I don’t review squash matches. N/A His name is Mike LaBoska, which I figured out because he showed up on TV again three months later and they said his name.

Cesaro comes out to apologize to Byron Saxton for attacking him last week. Then he forces Saxton to do his proto-alt-right pledge. Cesaro starts roughing up Saxton hoping to bait Regal to come out (he’s not on commentary on this show). Regal doesn’t show so Cesaro slaps Saxton and walks off.

Tyson Kidd def. Leo Kruger
This is a nice surprise, and a match 10 months in the making. For once it’s the babyfaces distracting the heel leading to a shitty finish. I’m excited that Kidd is back, and this was pretty solid given that Kidd hadn’t really wrestled in almost a year. **¾

Adrian Neville def. Bo Dallas [NXT Championship Match]
After a fun but short match, Neville hit Dallas with a top rope crossbody to the floor and Dallas couldn’t beat the count. Did he miss the count on purpose so that he could escape with his title? Who’s to say. This was good, and while they clearly kept a decent amount in the tank for future matches, Neville holding back is better than most people going all out. ***¼
