NXT 176

July 3, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

Bo Dallas starts the show with a backstage promo. He’s heeling it up pretty hard, but Antonio Cesaro interrupts and challenges him. Between this and Leo Kruger, I’m not sure why NXT is lining up all these heel vs. heel title matches.

Paige def. Alicia Fox [Semifinal Match]
The quarterfinal round of this tournament was such a drag that I treated this as an afterthought, but it would up being pretty good. Fox has some cool movez. **½

Conor O’Brian def. Andy Baker
Rick Victor is out there with O’Brian, though no explanation is given as to why Victor joined the Ascension. I don’t review squashes. N/A

Kassius Ohno’s weight is apparently aas big a deal than chubby Garrett Dylan’s (more on him in a minute), and he’s out with a fake injury. Corey Graves and Adrian Neville (who is presumably taking Ohno’s spot as a tag title contender) ask William Regal to jump in and help them fight the Wyatt Family.

Xavier Woods def. Scott Dawson
The flabby wrestlers get cut from the company, leaving Dawson to wrestle on his own. I don’t care for the Honor Role at all because it totally telegraphs the move to Woods’ opponents, but everything else he does is a blast. For his part, Dawson is already more interesting to watch after dropping the dead weight. **¾

Mason Ryan def. Enzo Amore
Didn’t we already do this? Amore has Big Cass in his corner now and the catchphrase is already formed. Alsom somehow the crowd already knows it and has SAWFT signs. Was there a YouTube video I was supposed to watch to be in on this gimmick already or is WWE orchestrating this fandom? Ryan wins the match with one punch so Amore tells Cass to fight him. N/A

Mason Ryan def. Colin Cassidy
Ryan roid rages through Cass in less than a minute. N/A

Bo Dallas def. Antonio Cesaro [NXT Championship Match]
The commentators acknowledge how reviled Dallas is by the fans, so I hope the heel-who’s-booked-as-a-babyface thing becomes more clear soon. At least I feel better knowing it’s deliberate. The crowd is 100% behind Cesaro, which would be cooler if his catchphrase wasn’t so Trumpy at the moment. Cesaro is consistently the best part of NXT, carrying Dallas to the best match of his career so far without really even breaking a sweat. The finish was garbage, seeing Leo Kruger get up on the apron and distract Cesaro, (it was unclear who he was trying to hurt) which led directly to Dallas hitting his finisher. Kruger attacks Dallas after the match, but Cesaro makes the save and then beats on Dallas himself. Sami Zayn makes the save. ***¾
