NXT 172

June 5, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

The show starts with a long, drawn out contract signing for the Big E Langston vs. Bo Dallas title match in which a whole lot of nothing happened.

Paige def. Tamina Snuka
WWE was still so skittish about women’s wrestling that there’s only one tournament match per show. So rather than this thing playing out over 3 shows like the other inaugural championship tournaments, this one could play out over 7 shows. This match had basically the same finish as the battle royal last weekend, but the last minute was fun so I’m not mad at it. **

Mason Ryan def. Colin Cassady
Colin Cassady is Big Cass. Cute that Ryan squashed Enzo and Cass in consecutive weeks, but I don’t review squashes. N/A

Conor O’Brian def. Alex Riley
More squashes, dammit. Riley must have really been in the doghouse. Why did WWE keep him around so long after he pissed them off? And what is O’Brian even being kept strong for? Oh, it’s for his new version of the Ascension with Rick Victor, who is waiting for him on the ramp. N/A

Luke Harper & Erick Rowan def. Kassius Ohno & Corey Graves [NXT Tag Team Championship Match]
The babyfaces really did their best to make this entertaining and special, but the Wyatt Family is just not compelling in the ring. In this match, Harper did a couple little things that showed he still has a mind for wrestling and hasn’t been totally washed out by FCW training. So yeah, this landed somewhere in the middle. ***
