March 13, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida
Kassius Ohno def. Derrick Bateman
This was fine, just fine. After the match, Ohno baits Regal to the ring by continuing to hurt Bateman. Regal knocks Ohno out and Ohno looks surprised. Isn’t that what Ohno wanted? **½
Summer Rae def. Emma
This match was bad and both ladies should feel bad. Paige returns and attacks Rae after the match. *
There are backstage interviews with Adrian Neville, putting out an open challenge to anyone in the Wyatt Family for next week, and Big E. Langston, who I’m fairly certain is Kid President who grew up and traveled back in time to be a wrestler.
Bo Dallas def. Bray Wyatt
I can’t tell if these guys are just mediocre wrestlers or if they’re saving something for another match down the road. I also can’t tell why NXT puts the babyfaces over clean in the first match of every feud and then just has some bullshit happen after the match to stretch things out beyond the point that it makes sense from a storytelling perspective. In this case, the Family attacks Dallas after the match, but Dallas fights them off. Then Wyatt hits him with his finisher. Meh. **½
Speaking of which, Justin Gabriel, who already beat Leo Kruger clean, wants another match with him because Dusty Rhodes (RIP) has more scars on his forehead than competent storyline ideas.
The supposed main event is a World Champion Alberto Del Rio promo that gets interrupted by United States Champion Antonio Cesaro, who wants a champ vs. champ match. Dusty comes out and says a champ vs. champ match can happen, but it will be between Cesaro and Langston. That’s champion vs. champion, not title vs. title, of course.
Big E Langston nc. Antonio Cesaro
This match kind of devalued Langston, as Cesaro, who has nothing really to do with NXT right now, put the champ on his back more than anyone ever has. The match also ends when Corey Graves and Conor O’Brian get involved and beat up Langston to nobody’s surprise because why should there be a clean finish in an NXT main event ever? **
