NXT 151

January 9, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

Luke Harper & Erick Rowan def. Yoshi Tatsu & Percy Watson
Rowan basically wasn’t in this match. Just more squash bullshit. I’m extending my refusal to rate squashes to all of them, beyond Big E Langston, now that he’s going to be in an actual title match. N/A

Paige def. Emma
Paige is now magically undefeated in NXT according to the commentators. That is just not true. Emma’s dancing gimmick is about as preposterous as Paige’s undefeated status. It’s also not a great sign that the Paige Turner silences the crowd rather than drawing a pop. *¾

Epico & Primo def. Bo Dallas & Michael McGillicutty
Two things in this match were amazing to me: 1) That McGillicutty is already so over as a babyface, despite his babyface turn being completely out of nowhere, and 2) that the Colons won clean, without any nonsense, after a pretty solid match with a great finish. ***

Big E Langston def Seth Rollins [No Disqualifcation NXT Championship Match]
It seems that this was made a no DQ match because Rollins’ defense against Corey Graves ended in a DQ when the Shield interfered. Since Dusty is a babyface it’s a bit confusing that he wouldn’t add different stipulation, that the title could change hands on a DQ, instead of this. As it is the Shield attacks after the first few minutes. From a logic perspective this makes no sense, but from a booking perspective it’s clear that it was done to make Langston look like a superhero. That’s pretty much subverted when the whole babyface roster pulls Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to the back. From there the rest of the match is Langston kicking out of the standing Sliced Bread, then reversing a second attempt to his finisher and winning the title. Kind of a nothing match, but I’m stoked to see Langston in real matches from now on. **½
