NXT 129

August 8, 2012 – Winter Park, Florida

The video package at the beginning of this episode makes no sense, as Leo Kruger and Drew McIntyre are both interviewed despite being eliminated already. One assumes that since Dusty Rhodes announced the tournament just before their matches last week, there’d be no chance for them to record these interviews.

Michael McGillicutty def. Justin Gabriel [Quarterfinal Match]
Aw jeeze Gabriel is second generation too? At least his dad wasn’t a WWE wrestler. The finish here was pretty nice, even though the rolling Perfect Plex should absolutely be McGillicutty’s finisher, not that weak running neckbreaker. ***

Kassius Ohno def. CJ Parker
Another Kassius Ohno squash. Do I need to keep giving my opinion on these? There are too many squashes on these shows. *

Tamina Snuka & Paige def. Kaitlyn & Caylee Turner
This was fine, just fine. I’m not really getting a sense of anyone here except for Paige. **

Jinder Mahal def. Bo Dallas [Quarterfinal Match]
Regal asks if we’ve noticed how many tournament wrestlers are 2nd or 3rd generation. I’VE NOTICED! This was a boring match in front of a dead crowd. Before the match we saw Dallas and Derrick Bateman have issues backstage over their tag team loss on a previous show. This is where overbooking comes in handy, because the match could have used something, anything, to make it more interesting. **¼
