NXT 69

June 14, 2011 – Providence, Rhode Island

The rookies cut promos on each other to start the show because there’s an elimination tonight. Lucky Cannon and Titus O’Neil cut decent promos, and then Conor O’Brien and Darren Young bomb. I guess it was a challenge, and O’Neil wins.

Darren Young def. Yoshi Tatsu
Tatsu tried, but Young isn’t great and this match was stretched twice as long as it should have been because they needed to get JTG TV time on commentary. Chavo Guerrero helps Young get the win… with a slam off the top rope? JTG attacks Tatsu after the match. O’Brian and Vladimir Kozlov make the save. **

Hornswoggle is on the shelf because of an attack on Raw by R-Truth… who was getting a PPV title shot in a little bit? I have no memory of that happening and kind of can’t believe it did. The video package hyping it is actually pretty damn good though, and the whole riding a conspiracy theory to success angle was really prescient.

Titus O’Neil def. Lucky Cannon
Now it seems the commentators had the angle right last week and it was Maryse who went off-script by screaming that the bag was fake. The angle now is that she’s using Cannon’s credit card to have it repaired, so they’re pretty much just repeating the Ted DiBiase angle with Cannon. This match was very bad. Almost all of it was in a rest hold, and William Regal was right to crap on it in his diplomatic way. Moments later, Cannon gets eliminated from NXT. Then Maryse reveals that the purse repairman said the purse was fake, so she dumps him. So she blew the payoff last week. She is just awful on the mic, and I can’t believe she’s still so heavily featured on WWE TV all these years later. ½*
