WWE ECW 90

February 26, 2008 – Tucson, Arizona

The previous week’s episode was a total throw away piece of crap, and it wasn’t even in HD. This week can’t possibly be as bad.

Kelly Kelly & Kofi Kingston def. Layla & Santino Marella
The commentators lied and said that this was Marella’s first appearance on ECW, but he was on a year ago as part of Bobby Lashley’s feud with Umaga. When the women fought the women this was fine, and when the men fought the men this was fine, but the intergender portions of this match were really poorly executed. Overall it was better than it probably should have been though. Kelly pinned Layla after a Famouser. **

Stevie Richards def. Mike Knox
The storyline here was that Richards’ throat was still dubious post-surgery, so Knox spent the whole match going after it. That might be logical but it wasn’t compelling. Richards won with the StevieT. *¾

Colin Delaney & Tommy Dreamer def. The Miz & John Morrison
Tazz proved here that he didn’t understand what sadomasochism meant. A few cute spots aside, this was pretty dull. Dreamer pinned Miz with a DDT after Miz and Delaney knocked heads. A post-match promo shows that Miz needs his promos to be scripted, because his improvised asides don’t make any sense. *¾

CM Punk def. Shelton Benjamin & Elijah Burke {Number One Contender Match}
Benjamin did his best to get the crowd invested in this match with a couple of flashy maneuvers, but the match was so disjointed that there was no real opportunity for the fans to latch on. Punk won with the GTS on Burke. **¼

Well, that was a better, more cohesive show than last week, but like last year the road to WrestleMania is paved with storylines and segments that have nothing to do with this brand.
