July 10, 2007 – New Orleans, Louisiana
So much for economical, this episode has twice as many segments as last week. We start with Matt Striker inviting the Boogeyman into his in-ring classroom. Striker tries to convince Boogeyman that worms are gross, but some of the things he’s saying about worms are just innocuous facts. Then Striker brings out a shirtless Viscera, now going by the name Big Daddy V, who beats up Boogeyman. Now that he’s not wearing a trash bag as wrestling gear, it’s pretty wild to see how different his bodily proportions are than you’d have imagined. I don’t know why you’d be imagining, but now you don’t have to.
Elijah Burke def. Balls Mahoney
Sigh, back to business as usual. This was about as cookie cutter as it gets. They were doing so well skipping the squashes for the last two weeks, and that makes me wonder why they didn’t cut bait with Mahoney and and all the other goofs who just lose in five minutes or less. *½
CM Punk def. Stevie Richards
This is the sixth and final match between these two in ECW .This was more competitive than matches they’ve had before, which is odd since now Punk is going for the title so you’d think they’d want him to look more dominant. Made for a slightly more entertaining match at least. **¼
Extreme Expose flirts with the Miz. He drops an awful line and they swoon. Who were they trying to appeal to in making these people in their twenties act like 7-year-olds? Oh right, horny children.
The Miz def. Nunzio
The only thing notable about this was the bad commentary about Extreme Expose and the Miz’s finisher being called the Mizard of Oz. That’s some British indy nonsense. *
Extreme Expose dances to a song about California… in Louisiana. The Miz is not involved.
Johnny Nitro def. Tommy Dreamer {Extreme Rules Match}
This wasn’t as good as their previous match, in large part due to the commentators overselling the violence here as innovative when it was just kind of good. The finishing sequence was really good because Nitro sells surprise and preparedness better than the usual goons that Dreamer faces do. **¾
