WWE ECW 56

July 3, 2007 – Dallas, Texas

Johnny Nitro def. Tommy Dreamer
CM Punk and Nitro got to pick each other’s opponents tonight, and judging by their picks they wanted the other to have an easy match. Did this need to be fifteen minutes long? No. Was it the best Dreamer match in forever? Yes. Do I chalk that up to them keeping it simple save for Nitro’s flash offense? Yep. So there you have it. ***

For no reason they show the full match between Nitro and Punk from Vengeance. I guess stuff like this was interesting before the WWE Network was a thing, but it seems pretty mundane in today’s context. Also, Extrema Expose and the Miz are coming next week.

CM Punk def. Kevin Thorn
Punk’s been working miracles lately, getting watchable, longer matches out of Elijah Burke and now Thorn. I wouldn’t recommend you watch this, but I’ll say that if you ever find yourself with it on your television you won’t want to blow your brains out. Nitro attacks Punk after the match but Punk fights him off. **½

I really appreciate how economical this show is becoming. I hope it keeps up.
