WWE ECW 52

June 5, 2007 – Orlando, Florida

Vince McMahon sits elevated next to the ramp in a rocking chair. He can’t even sell being catatonic well.

Bobby Lashley def. Sandman, Tommy Dreamer & Balls Mahoney {Extreme Rules Handicap Match}
The commentators say that McMahon mandated this match, which is weird since his gimmick right now is that he’s on another planet. This was about as good as it could have been with washed up babyfaces acting like pseudo heels. Lashley used miscommunication plaguing the originals to win this thing. *¾

Kevin Thorn def. Stevie Richards
The best thing about Thorn lately was that his matches were so short. This was almost five minutes, which was three and a half minutes too long. Joey Styles suggests that Thorn might no longer be a follower of vampirism, and I notice for the first time that Ariel has been gone for weeks. *½

Randy Orton lost to Rob Van Dam on the PPV a couple days ago, but then he beat up RVD so bad that RVD was out of WWE (for the most part) for six years.

Elijah Burke & Marcus Cor Von def. Brett Major & Brian Major
This was set up to be Striker vs. Brian but the long-term planning of WWE was out the window at this point so it was changed. The New Breed looked good here for a change, though even a six-minute match was too long for them to keep it interesting the whole time. I’ll give them points for looking very motivated, though. That said, between this and the PPV it’s been a lot of 50/50 booking. **¼

CM Punk def. Matt Striker
McMahon is no longer in his chair. It was nice of them to give these guys a bit of time to show their stuff in the main event. Striker just isn’t good and no amount of fire from Punk was going to change that. But like the last match, points for trying. **

For an episode that was really just the leftovers of this bland lineup before the draft, it was surprisingly not terrible. It wasn’t good, but not terrible. Hopefully things start to turn around next week.
