WWE ECW 30

January 2, 2007 – Lakeland, Florida

Test def. Sabu
Test makes it clear before the match that he’s not done going for the ECW title. Sabu got dominated here, and it’s hard to believe this wasn’t a sign of him leaving the company immediately. *½

Elijah Burke & Sylvester Terkay def. Little Guido & Tony Mamaluke
Tazz cares so much about this match he starts talking about college football bowl games. How in the actual fuck did this guy stay employed? This was an entertaining squash, but a squash nonetheless. N/A

Matt Striker cuts a promo saying that CM Punk can’t beat Hardcore Holly. Holly agrees. This was pretty damn weird. Then, Tommy Dreamer says he’s going to keep coming after Great Khali until he chops him down. This was less weird. The, Rob Van Dam reveals that Paul Heyman is gone and thanks Bobby Lashley for it. That doesn’t really track but sure, whatever.

Kevin Thorn def. Balls Mahoney
Brad Armstrong joins commentary, completely overshadowing the match by goofing around with Tazz, and talking over the finish. This production is so bad it’s actually hard to believe. This wasn’t like when NXT was online and they stopped caring about it, this was on cable television in prime time. *

Vladimir Kozlov gets interviewed by Tazz in the crowd. He likes the ECW style, so he’s braindead. He could beat both guys in the upcoming title match. I wasn’t really paying close attention to WWE TV at this point, but I don’t remember him actually wrestling until quite a bit after this.

Bobby Lashley nc. Rob Van Dam {ECW Championship Match}
It’s good to know that when you put Lashley up against someone who is actually mobile he can work a fun match. Sadly, we get a rather lame finish when RVD hits Lashley with a dive from the top rope to the announce table and neither guy can continue. Welp, it was good while it lasted and maybe the rematch next week will improve upon it. ***¼
