WWE ECW 184

December 15, 2009 – Laredo, Texas

Tiffany comes out for a chat. She brings out Shelton Benjamin and Christian to congratulate them on the hard work they put in on the PPV. They thank the fans and each other. Benjamin asks for a rematch. William Regal comes out to obscure Benjamin’s title request and to stir up fear about Kane having been invited back to the show. Tiffany has in fact invited several former ECW wrestlers to fight current ECW wrestlers in a ECW Homecoming tournament for a shot at Christian. But also current wrestlers will wrestle other current wrestlers, meaning Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov will finally fight each other. It was kind of cute to bring back all these old wrestlers as the show begins to come to an end.

The Hurricane def. The Ripper
Katie Lea’s alter ego is the Beautiful Nightmare. I actually like the idea of midcarders in ECW having alter egos, or at least being influenced into this weird superhero world by the Hurricane. But this was many years before the MCU really too off, so instead of getting a Hurricane extended universe we get Hurricane unmasking Paul Burchill and hitting the Shining Wizard for the win at 3:56. And that was it for Burchill’s WWE TV career. To add insult to injury, when Gregory Helms interviews Burchill after the match he still has his Hurri-cape on. **

The Abraham Washington Show has Maria on as its guest. They focus in on the Slammys the night before, where Batista did a lame Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift bit. At least this reference was only three months old and not four years old like most of WWE’s reference. Like most versions of this segment, it leads to nothing and just ends because it must without resolution. I guess we’re supposed to take away that Washington is growing more mad at Tony Atlas, but that’s not really emphasized either. I wonder if any other segment in WWE history was as consistently pointless and as frequently imposed on the audience.

Ezekiel Jackson def. Vladimir Kozlov {Semifinal Match}
The finals will be an eight man number one contender battle royal. Regal tripped Kozlov, leading to Jackson hitting the uranage for the win at 1:35. Kozlov tries to attack Regal after the match, but Jackson saves him. I guess that’s a face turn for Kozlov. ½*

Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta def. Jorge Arias & Julio Cruz
As of this, the third squash for Barreta & Croft, they have yet to get the crowd to make a single sound. They hit a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo on Cruz for the win at 1:30. I guess that’s a better finisher than a knee strike? Oh, they have general rock entrance music now. N/A

Kane def. Zack Ryder {Semifinal Match}
This was pretty solid for what it was, which was Ryder desperately running around to try to pick at Kane. Eventually, Kane blocked the Rough Ryder and hit the chokeslam for the win at 3:47. **¼
