WWE ECW 176

October 20, 2009 – Columbia, South Carolina

Abraham Washington is hosting ECW, but he’s interrupted by Chris Jericho who is looking for the General Manager.

Yoshi Tatsu def. Zack Ryder {Number One Contender Match}
This would make more sense if Regal was a part of it, but whatever it gets the show where I want it to go. This was a nice little sprint, that Tatsu won in 7:06 (shown) with the Saikyou High Kick and a slingshot splash. **¾

Rosa Mendez is part of ECW now, and Tiffany welcomes here. Chris Jericho enters and says he’s here to recruit for his team on the PPV. Tiffany tells him to buzz off. Later, he approaches William Regal and complains about Tiffany’s attitude. Tiffany pops up and says that interactions like this is why Regal isn’t receiving title opportunities. She thinks about booting Jericho, but instead she books him in the main event against Christian. I like that she explained why Regal wasn’t in the opener.

Sheamus def. JT Quinn
Quinn is TJ Perkins. Remember TJ Perkins?! This was shaping up to be a squash but then Sheamus ended up winning by disqualification when Shelton Benjamin ran out to attack him at 1:16. N/A

Paul Burchill comes out for a chat. Remember when he was a pirate? He demands Gregory Helms come out as the Hurricane and unmask. Hurricane comes out with his head hung low. He takes off the mask, but it’s some other dude. The real Hurricane comes out with a hurri-cane and beats up Burchill. Oh my god please end this.

Christian def. Chris Jericho
Jericho didn’t get an entrance. How odd. This was pretty fun. They kept it basic for a while, but then broke out a great run to the finish. Christian hit the Killswitch for the win at 8:19 (shown). I was surprised to see Christian go over clean, given how much he was jobbing earlier in his run. But I guess they’re now figuring out that when two guys have a title match coming up, it’s good to keep them both strong instead of making them both look weak. ***
