WWE ECW 161

July 9, 2009 – Bakersfield, California

This episode was on a Thursday for some reason.

Nikki Bella def. Katie Lea Burchill
Aside from Bella just straight up falling off of the apron, this was alright. Technically Brie won the match for the team after switching with Nikki and hitting the X-Factor for the win at 2:33. *½

Shelton Benjamin def. Yoshi Tatsu
They showed Benjamin’s racism from last week again. Vince McMahon sucks. This was pretty solid, if a little long for what they were going for. Benjamin won with the Paydirt at 10:26. ***

Ezekiel Jackson def. Jack Meridol
Jackson squashed Meridol and won in 1:46 with a chokeslam. Wake me when he gets an eyepatch. N/A

The Hurricane saves a girl from falling off of a ladder. Then, Tommy Dreamer goes on the Abraham Washington Show. They trade insults and it’s boring. Washington is really, really bad at this. Dreamer predicts that Christian will beat Kozlov tonight. Kozlov comes out to stare down Dreamer, which did more to make me think Kozlov could win than any squash he’s had in recent weeks.

Christian def. Vladimir Kozlov {Number One Contender Match}
I’m going to be very honest, the YouTube channel for the Office released a full movie version of Threat Level Midnight as I was reviewing this match, so I was a little distracted. But to be fair to myself, it’s a five-minute Kozlov match, so my review of it wasn’t going to change the world. I will say that Christian took a few crazy bumps here, so Kozlov got to look good while losing. Christian ran Kozlov’s head into an exposed turnbuckle and hit the Killswitch for the win at 5:35. Dreamer’s inability to emote on commentary took a lot of the punch out of Christian’s win. **½
