Donald Trump (who, maybe purchased Raw? I basing this guess on a promo I half heard after the ECW Championship match ended on the PPV two nights earlier) initiated a fifteen superstar trade among the brands. I’d give a lot to not have him actually show up on screen on this show. So because the roster got shaken up, it’s a new era in ECW. To be honest, this show felt like it had maybe six wrestlers recently, so it was time for a refresh. ECW took its next step in morphing into NXT here, as all the new talent from developmental started debuting on this show.
Yoshi Tatsu def. Shelton Benjamin
Tatsu’s debut here. Benjamin cuts a racist promo before the match. It’s so racist that even Matt Striker seems grossed out. After a minute of racist posturing, Tatsu kicks Benjamin’s head off for the win at 1:40. Well, at least Tatsu got immediate revenge I guess. I won’t rate this, though it’s appropriate that it’s on a show where Trump is a focal point. N/A
Abraham Washington hosts a talk show with guests the Bella Twins. Remember when the Bellas were the focal point of a tag title feud and then didn’t factor into the blowoff match at all? Nikki makes a big deal about being all natural, which would come back to haunt her later on. The rest is brutally boring and the crowd completely ignores it. Holy shit this just never ends. It is clear that Bree has more charisma than Nikki, and everything Nikki does feels super fake and also the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Oh, and the segment leads to nothing.
Sheamus def. Oliver John
I think this was Sheamus’s WWE debut. Oliver got squished. Sheamus won at 2:24 with a backbreaker. Even the commentators were bored here, just muttering through the thing unintelligibly. N/A
Tyler Reks rolls up on Zack Ryder because he’s basically the west coast version of him. They’re going to fight each other on Superstars, so Ryder is rude to him for no real reason. This refresh sucks. Later, Tommy Dreamer gets pouty because Christian tells him he’s coming for his title, even though they have a tag match next. Woof, Dreamer is bad at being sympathetic.
Vladimir Kozlov & William Regal def. Christian & Tommy Dreamer
This wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it’d be. They strung together a decent enough match, wherein Dreamer & Christian didn’t quite trust each other, and Kozlov & Regal weren’t quite on the same page either, but Kozlov’s brutality was enough to get the win over Dreamer with the spinebuster at 11:08. **½
