WWE ECW 152

May 5, 2009 – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Tyson Kidd def. Evan Bourne
Kidd was quite good. He was so good in fact that he almost made a chinlock entertaining. Sadly, he wasn’t quite good enough to pull that off. And they spent a lot of time in that chinlock. The parts of this match that weren’t a chinlock were actually entertaining, but then the finish was Finlay running out to club Kidd’s leg and Bourne hitting a Shooting Star Press for the win at 10:07 (shown). Kind of defeats the purpose of giving these guys a lot of time when they fill it with a long chinlock and a crappy finish. **¾

Jack Swagger comes out to the ring for a chat with Josh Matthews. Swagger says he interfered in last week’s main event because he doesn’t want to beat Tommy Dreamer for the title, he wants to beat the guy who took the title from him. He’s also looking forward to Dreamer leaving ECW in five weeks when his contract is up, and interfering last week assured that will happen. Dreamer runs out and attacks Swagger.

Zack Ryder is in ECW now. He meets with Tiffany, who is excited he’s there. She’s booking him against Finlay on Superstars.

Vladimir Kozlov def. Jesse Guilmette
Kozlov won in 1:27 with a chokeslam. N/A

Christian nc. Mark Henry
I bet these two had a solid match in them, but this wasn’t it. This wasn’t it because at 2:18, Swagger ran in and spoiled the match. Dreamer ran out to attack Swagger again. That led immediately into an impromptu tag match made by Tiffany, channeling her former mentor. N/A

Christian & Tommy Dreamer def. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger
The match was joined in progress. This was kind of a snooze until the last couple of minutes, and Henry’s presence in this feud feels totally tacked on. He has no reason to like or want to team with Swagger, and should be mad at him for robbing him of a potential win over the champion. The crowd was really hot for Dreamer here, so his comeback had a fun energy. Dreamer dove off the apron here too, so he was clearly more motivated than usual. Swagger picked up the win for his team by sending Dreamer into an exposed turnbuckle (that wasn’t actually exposed… whoops) and hitting the gutwrench powerbomb at 9:40. **¾
