WWE ECW 130

December 2, 2008 – Washington, DC

Jack Swagger comes out to the ring for a chat. He wants to be named Matt Hardy’s next contender. But Teddy Long is swayed by Tiffany, who thinks Ricky Ortiz should be the contender. He makes a match between Swagger and Ortiz now. It’s not clear whether or not this is officially a contender match.

Jack Swagger def. Ricky Ortiz
This was technically fine, but nothing special at all. Swagger won in 4:51 (shown) with the Swagger Bomb. Given how much they avoided saying that Swagger was the number one contender, I’ll take it that this match was just there to get rid of one guy’s undefeated streak.**¼

Finlay comes out to the ring for a chat. He calls out Mark Henry. Henry has been going after Hornswoggle because Finlay has cheated and used the shillelagh every time they’ve had a match, costing Henry shots at the title. He threatens Hornswoggle again, and then proposes a tag match between himself and Tony Atlas against Finlay & Hornswoggle. Finlay reluctantly accepts. I guess it’s going to happen next week, but nobody could be bothered to actually say when it’s set to take place.

DJ Gabriel def. Josh Daniels
I remember wondering why Daniels was booked so poorly when he was in Ring of Honor a few years before this, but it seems like that’s just his lot in life. This was another squash in silence that Gabriel won yet again with the European uppercut at 2:25. N/A

Matt Hardy def. MVP
This match focused entirely on MVP’s losing streak, which was a Smackdown angle. No lip service is paid to Swagger as Hardy’s new problem, or what Hardy might be doing at the PPV coming up in under two weeks. They never even mentioned that MVP should get a title shot should he end his streak against Hardy here. This show carried on for almost two more years after this, somehow. This match was pretty dull. It wasn’t bad, but it just dragged on at the same pace for 9:59 until Hardy finally did something interesting by countering the Playmaker to the Side Effect, and then hit the Twist of Fate for the win. Big time whatever. **½
