The Miz, John Morrison & Jack Swagger def. Shad Gaspard, JTG & Tommy Dreamer
It occurs to me seeing Dreamer here that Colin Delaney’s exit from ECW happened immediately after that Extreme Rules match. Matt Striker calls Gaspard a modern-day Ernie Ladd, and while I appreciate that he was trying to build Gaspard up, that’s generous at best. Then Striker openly opposes gay marriage on the air, which is too stupid even for the moronic comment of the week. Todd Grisham teases him about Barack Obama being elected president the week before, which is nice. Anyway, this match had more chinlocks than I like to see in a six-man tag, but it had its fun moments too. Dreamer got to look really strong right up until Morrison caught him with the Moonlight Drive for the win at 7:17. **¾
Mark Henry def. Oliver Biney
Just a squash. Biney was really well-regarded in the UK indies eight years after this, but this is the first (and probably last) I’d ever seen of him. Henry won with the World’s Strongest Slam in 1:30. N/A
Matt Hardy def. Finlay {ECW Championship Match}
Striker overplays Finlay’s ovation, saying that the crowd is going insane for him when we can see that they don’t really care. On the other hand, Hardy is very over with this crowd. The universe haunts me here, as Striker corrects Grisham when he mixes up Finlay’s moves. I don’t like giving Striker credit. And so I’ll take it away, because he and Grisham spend the whole decent match fluffing it up as something epic. Seriously, this was totally fine, but anything less from these two would have been considered outright bad. I’d even call this disappointing, as they had a back-and-forth match without anything special, and the fake praise actually hurt it in my opinion. Hardy won in 9:29 (shown) with the Twist of Fate. ***
