WWE ECW 114

August 12, 2008 – Norfolk, Virginia

Tommy Dreamer def. Colin Delaney {Extreme Rules Match}
This was no more entertaining than their traditional rules match. Does Delaney have any more value on this show? Does Dreamer? This was a drag; it was just three minutes of Dreamer pacing and hitting Delaney with flimsy weapons. He won in 3:12 with a DDT on a stop sign. *

Evan Bourne def. Bam Neely
They’d just finished talking about how Edge destroyed his whole stable on Smackdown and yet here are Neely & Chavo Guerrero, selling their injuries like cartoon characters rather than human beings. I’m just now noticing that Bourne has the Dragon Gate logo on his trunks. It’s a shame he’s stuck in a feud with these bores. Striker calls it “Dragon’s Gate.” This match was actually pretty decent, as Neely mostly just acted as a base for Bourne to do his thing. Bourne won in 3:10 with the Shooting Star Press. **¼

Armando Estrada insists Teddy Long sign his new ECW contract. Long celebrates with a glass of champagne and by booking Estrada against Finlay tonight. Later, Ricky Ortiz visits Long to try to get him to invest in a branded rally towel. Long thinks Ortiz is getting ahead of himself, so he books him in a match against someone new next week.

Finlay def. Armando Estrada
Estrada has nothing at all to offer a TV audience, and thus this sucked. Finlay hits the Celtic Cross for the win at 4:58. Knox watched the match from the ramp but refused to come down after when Finlay invited him. Oh, the match was crazy dull. A tiny ginger kid dances with Finlay & Hornswoggle in the ring, which almost makes up for the garbage I just watched. ¾*

Mark Henry & Matt Hardy def. The Miz & John Morrison
Henry and Hardy had a segment backstage and what I got from that is Henry is getting a lot better in the talking department. “I know we’re supposed to say to stay out of each other’s ways, but I want you to get in my way. I want to go right through you, just like I’ll do at SummerSlam.” That’s solid stuff. The match was going along fine and then ended incredibly abruptly at 5:26 when Hardy hit Morrison with an avalanche Side Effect. The finish looked like it was either a miscommunication between Morrison and the referee or that Morrison got hurt. But something definitely went wrong there. Henry attacks Hardy after the match. **½

Now let’s take a very, very brief look at SummerSlam.

August 17, 2008 – Indianapolis, Indiana

Matt Hardy def. Mark Henry {ECW Championship Match}
Hardy hit the Twist of Fate in the opening seconds of the match, and then won by disqualification in 33 seconds of match time when Tony Atlas interfered. Jeff Hardy made the save, hitting Atlas with a Swanton Bomb off of the apron. The Hardyz hit Henry with a double suplex on the floor too. Okay then. N/A
