WWE ECW 09

August 8, 2006 – Nashville, Tennessee

Mike Knox def. Tommy Dreamer
The gimmick here was that Dreamer was still beat up from the hardcore tag match last week. Paul Heyman ran out to distract the referee while his uniformed guards beat up Dreamer, giving Knox the win. This lasted two minutes and meant nothing. Sandman runs out (well, slowly walks out from the crowd) to help his buddy and gets put in a handicap match. N/A

Mike Knox & Test def. Sandman {Handicap Match}
Heyman insists the match is not hardcore so Sandman’s cane is illegal. This also lasts round two minute and is as boring and pointless as the previous match. The bad guys win by disqualification when Sandman uses the cane. N/A

Sabu gets a hype video, Balls Mahoney cuts another promo while saying nothing, and later Rene Dupree says he’s coming to ECW. Yikes.

Kevin Thorn def. Al Snow
Nice of them to give the vampire a name. Not so nice of Thorn to be boring as hell and super weird for three minutes. N/A

Big Show comes out to cut a promo about being classier and more dominant than ECW and say that neither guy fighting for a shot at the title tonight can beat him at SummerSlam. The crowd is silent the whole time. CM Punk cuts another cookie-cutter promo backstage after that.

Kurt Angle nc. Sabu {Number One Contender Match}
Kurt Angle got a hype video and a backstage promo before the match, which was nice because after this he was out of WWE for about a decade. This match was actually going along quite nicely before Rob Van Dam ran out to attack both guys and give us a non-finish. Angle did a great job of reigning in Sabu, and it’s too bad they never got a chance to tell a full story. ***¼
