Sexy Star def. Ivelisse
Before the match, Star calls out Chavo Guerrero for being a coward and promises to avenge Blue Demon Jr. and Mascarita Sagrada. Even though he’s a straight man babyface play-by-play commentator now, Matt Striker can’t contain his misogyny, saying that this match will be all hair pulling and scratching and a festival of flesh even as the ladies work a headlock in the ring. Fuck that guy all the way to hell. The match is actually really good, has great heat, and both women were really tearing into each other. Then Vampiro says how much he likes the match and Striker responds by saying he had four sisters and this action was like the fight over the bathroom in his childhood home. Just a garbage performer. Star wins with la magistral. ***
Dario Cueto approaches Drago in the bathroom and says that since Drago wasn’t involved in the pinfall in last week’s triple threat main event, he’ll be facing the savage King Cuerno tonight.
Fenix def. Pentagon Jr.
Before the match, Pentagon sucks up to Cueto on the microphone. This match had the same issues as the triple threat match last week; there was a lot of Pentagon standing around waiting for Fenix to hit him with a high spot, and there wasn’t a lot of Fenix selling anything. These guys can do things that almost no one else can do, but they’ve clearly wrestled each other so many times that their matches have become too routine for them. There’s almost no drama. ***
Drago def. King Cuerno
The title of this episode is based on Cuerno, so it’s kind of weird that it’s not the main event and that he lost here. With the exception of a spot in which Drago vaulted off of the referee to get to Cuerno, this was more basic than the earlier matches in the show. Drago won with a very complicated roll up that also looked quite nice. Vampiro calling the pinfall a “finish” is just beyond obnoxious. I might start watching with Spanish commentary. **½
Konnan tells Prince Puma to stay away from the main event, no matter what Cueto has in store for Johnny Mundo. I can’t say enough how much I love how these backstage segments were filmed and presented.
Johnny Mundo def. Big Ryck
This was a decent enough American style match (not really what I’m after with this show), wherein Mundo still got to show off his acrobatic skills. Ryck got disqualified when his boys ran in and attacked Mundo (after attacking Puma in the locker room). Ryck puts Mundo through a table to end the show. **¼
