Big Ryck appeared in the opening flashbacks, making me skeptically hopeful that he’d somehow come back from the dead here.
Daga def. PJ Black
Vampiro was so weird on commentary here, shitting on both guys’ holds and saying that they didn’t look like there was much pressure on them. Your job is to get these guys over dude, not make them sound weak. In a nice change of pace, these guys kept this largely on the mat. Daga got the win with a version of the armbar that I’ve never seen before at 7:29. Vibora and Drago come out and put the puts to Black. The Worldwide Underground comes out for the save. So last week the Reptile Tribe were the heroes, and this week it’s the Worldwide Underground. Kobra Moon tells Johnny Mundo that he’ll be joining the Reptile Tribe and challenges them to a four-on-four match. If they win, Mundo joins. If the Worldwide Underground wins, Mundo gets a wish granted by Moon. ***¼
Catrina visits the Mack in the locker room. Mil Muertes is coming for him. She tells him that death swirls around him, just like it did for his cousin. Mack then finds Big Ryck’s skull in his locker. That’s intensely messed up.
El Dragon Azteca comes to the ring to show off his Gift of the Gods Championship and say he’s going to use it to win the Lucha Underground Championship. But he’s waiting until Ultima Lucha for his title shot, and he’ll defend the Gift of the Gods until then. If I thought for a second they’d let Azteca win matches all season I’d be into it, but history says there’s no way.
Killshot, Son of Havoc & The Mack def. Paul London, Mala Suerte & Saltador {Lucha Underground Trios Championship Match}
Here, Vampiro spends his time blocking Matt Striker’s terrible jokes and annoying analogies. That’s a bit of an improvement. The crowd was really hyped for a Tower of Doom spot, but the rest of the match was hit and miss. The Rabbit Tribe seemed to be having a hard time deciding if they were serious contenders here or comedy wrestlers. Mack hit Suerte with a Frog Splash, and Killshot stole the pin at 7:21. All is not well in the champions’ camp. **¾
Cage & King Cuerno def. Pentagon Dark {Handicap Match}
Cage and Melissa Santos can’t help but shooting googly eyes at each other before the match, which kind of degrades Fenix’s death. Cage and Dark got to pick their partners here. Dark insisted he could beat both opponents. Cage apparently had an understanding with Cuerno, as the hunter hits the Thrill of the Kill and walks out so that Cage can hit the Drill Claw for the win at 5:48. After the match, Cage hits a pair of Conchairtos on Dark. This was kind of dumb, unless Dark having no allies remains part of the storyline. **¼
In a desert, Mundo and Taya play Indiana Jones in the Reptile Tribes lair. Drago is there chained up. Vibora almost takes out Taya and Mundo, but Taya knocks the big guy out with a baseball bat. Then she straight up cuts off Vibora’s head. She’s a murderer, but it’s for love so that Mundo doesn’t have to join the Reptile Tribe. Mundo cheekily tells Drago not to tell anyone they were there. I’m pretty bummed that that’s it for VIbora in LU.
