Fenix def. Aerostar
I’m still not feeling zombie Fenix, but I really liked Aerostar trying to strong style smash some sense into the guy he brought back from the dead. Fenix no-sold his way to victory with the Black Fire Driver at 6:19. It was a nice change of pace. After the match, Melissa Santos tries to talk sense into Fenix but he grabs her again. El Dragon Azteca comes out to calm things down, but Fenix beats him up and hits the Black Fire Driver on the floor. ***
Marty Martinez def. El Dragon Azteca {Gift of the Gods Championship Match}
Antonio Cueto threatened to give the title to Martinez by forfeit before the match, but Azteca was having none of it. I don’t understand why they squandered the opportunity to have Martinez squash Azteca and let the champ blame it on Fenix. Instead, Azteca got a comeback and hit his finisher, which Martinez killed by kicking out and being immediately fine. Moments later, Martinez hit the double arm DDT for the win and the title at 4:43. Terribly booked match, and another in a long line of moves to make Azteca look like a loser. *½
Paul London returns to the Rabbit Hole to visit the White Rabbit and El Bunny. He reports on the sacrifice of Mala Suerte and Saltador as a display of his loyalty to Rabbit. Rabbit ignores him and says that he and Bunny will be his new tag partners. London agrees to lead them to the Temple. It’s about time.
Pentagon Dark def. Mil Muertes and King Cuerno {Lucha Underground Championship Triple Threat Match}
This felt like three separate singles matches rather than one cohesive title match. Most of the action was good, but it didn’t come together as something memorable. It got pretty sloppy near the end too. Dark finished Cuerno with the Package Piledriver for the win at 6:04. Martinez runs in and attacks Dark, brutalizing him after the match, presumably to soften him up for a title match the next week. **¼
Marty Martinez def. Pentagon Dark {Lucha Underground Championship Match}
Cueto said that he was suspending his son’s week’s notice rule because of the payoff he got from Martinez the week before. He officially turns the Gift of the Gods into Money in the Bank, allowing the holder to use it at any time. Unlike the Gift of the Gods match, they didn’t kill off Dark’s finishers here. After a couple minutes, Chelsea Green comes out from under the ring and hits Dark with a low blow and hits him with a Canadian Destroyer. Martinez then won the title at 3:38 with Pentagon’s package piledriver. At least they protected Dark in the loss, but damn this whole thing felt like a bad late-stage WCW move. *
