Lucha Underground: The Best in the Business

May 6, 2015 – Los Angeles, California

Johnny Mundo and Alberto el Patron visit Dario Cueto in his office. They both want a shot at Prince Puma’s title. They both think they deserve the shot more than Hernandez. Cueto decides that they should fight each other to see who will fight Hernandez in a new number one contender match.

Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco def. Angelico & Son of Havoc
Angelico & Havoc couldn’t get along, so the Crew took advantage. This picked up nicely down the stretch. The Crew hit Havoc with the Shatter Machine at 5:24 for the win. **½

Prince Puma and Hernandez almost come to blows in the locker room. Konnan tries to keep the peace, but he doesn’t like that Hernandez was clearly coming for Puma last week. Cueto shows up and informs Hernandez about tonight’s main event. Then he books Puma and Hernandez in a tag match tonight. How very WWE of him.

DelAvar Daivari def. Texano
Daivari was in Cueto’s office before the match, ignoring Cueto and playing on his phone and drinking a cocktail. He drank another cocktail during his entrance. Texano ran into the ring so fast that the ring announcer shouted “oh shit” while trying to get out of the ring. He shoves the referee and gets disqualified 14 seconds in. N/A

Cage & King Cuerno def. Hernandez & Prince Puma
This was dope. The action was non-stop, and there were just enough instances of Hernandez screwing with Puma before he eventually turned on him outright. I could have done without Hernandez powerbombing Puma on the apron because it was so overt, but everything before that was great. Cage finished off Puma with Weapon X at 7:25. So does Cage get another title shot now? ***½

Black Lotus is ready to leave and go back to fighting Matanza Cueto. El Dragon Azteca says he she can take him down she can leave. He easily defeats her and tells her to stay so she doesn’t meet the same fate as her parents… so she unpacks.

Alberto el Patron def. Johnny Mundo
This was a really good, hard fought match that saw Mundo actually break a sweat (not a common thing). I really liked that Patron’s arm work didn’t lead to a submission victory, but rather the knowledge that he’d obliterated Mundo’s arm meant that an armbreaker would be enough to put him on his knees and hit a winning thrust kick at 12:18. These two have great chemistry. ***¾

Mil Muertes has apparently been in that casket this whole time. Catrina gives him his magic rock and brings him back to life. Why? Come to think of it, why hasn’t she been with Fenix in his recent matches? I wonder if they’ll explain it.
