Mil Muertes promises to destroy everyone in the Cueto Cup tournament for his love of Catrina. After watching some of the recap, the way Catrina played the pronoun game makes me think she’s actually in love with Ivelisse, not Prince Puma or Muertes. Jeremiah Crane broods while watching Catrina kiss Muertes.
Mil Muertes def. Veneno {First Round Match}
Total squash, which Muertes won in 1:09 with the Flatliner. Why does the mask suddenly make Ricky Reyes such a loser? N/A
Paul London def. Vibora {First Round Match}
I dig that the Rabbit Tribe’s music is a knock off of White Rabbit. This was mostly goofy comedy. London tried to threaten Vibora and Kobra Moon with a carrot, and then the rest of his Tribe came in and just ran around. After a London dive, Saltador came out from under the ring to hold Vibora and make him lose by count out at 3:54. This didn’t do it for me. This is the first time that someone has won a match by count out in Lucha Underground (there were a pair of double count outs in season one). *
Taya def. Joey Ryan {First Round Match}
I liked watching Taya stiff Ryan in the corner, but this was another gimmicky match, mostly just there to have Ryan be too pervy and have it cost him. Taya hits a double stomp at 3:34 for the win. I guess being a cop makes you suck at wrestling. *½
Muertes is dressed to the nines in the bathroom. Crane attacks him with a chair and says that Catrina is his. Then he crushes Muertes’s windpipe. Then, we get more Johnny Mundo vs. Rey Mysterio hype. Jack Evans must be hurt, because Ricky Mandel has replaced him in shots of the Worldwide Underground. Chavo Guerrero, Cage (without the gauntlet, ugh), Puma (doing a great job at hiding his southern accent), and Matt Striker are interviewed about the upcoming match.
Jeremiah Crane def. Killshot {First Round Match}
One of the Corridor Digital guys is in the crowd cheering for Crane hitting an exploder on the floor. My love of the Corridor Crew is at conflict with my disdain for Sami Callihan on that one. While I very much appreciate the extent to which these two beat the snot out of each other, I don’t appreciate that both guys basically no-sold everything and got into position on-camera for a lot of bigger spots. The finish also sucked, as Dante Fox appeared in the rafters and talked trash on the mic, distracting Killshot long enough for Crane to hit the Tiger Driver ‘91 for the win at 13:02. After the match, the lights go out at Catrina appears. Crane blows her a kiss. ***¼
A man who looks like Son of Havoc, who also hails from the Open Road, is booked into the final spot of the first round by Dario Cueto… against Son of Havoc.
